Thank you all who attended the informative talk by Diana Leitch about Emily Simon OBE (nee Stoehr). V.E Commemorations.

As part of Alderley's commemorations, we have been researching, the brave men on our War Memorial in the village. You may remember we did this for the 100th anniversary of World War 1, when Michael Scaife, researched all the WW1 soldiers , and we published a booklet.

In Michael's memory we have research information about the 24 men named on the WW2 plaques. We thank David Briggs from Wilmslow History Group for his detailed research, and Denise Psailia, for her additional facts.

We are displaying information about all the men, where they lived, & how they died,  at the back of St Philip & St James Church from 27th April till the end May. The church is open everyday from 9am till 5pm. please call in and learn more about the brave men of Alderley. We have been high lighting 3 men each week, on our Face Book page in the hope, some families may have more information of photos they would be willing to share.

20th Year.

Yes our lovely (growing) group is 20 years old this year. The first meeting was held at St Philips Church parish rooms Wednesday 30th November 2005 and our guest speaker Alan Garner. Alan grew up with Harold Smith our founder member, and they had been on the Alderley Landscape Project Committee, a 10year research project, about Alderley Edge and surrounding area, lead by the Manchester Museum.

The idea for a history group evolved from there.

The group has grown, our archives are housed at St Philip & St James Church, and we wish to thank them for their continued support, as we meet at the back of church every Wednesday, and we have members meetings bi monthly. We welcome anyone who would like to pop in on Wednesdays (there's usually cake!)
